Building Neighbourliness

Early Morning With God (EMWG).
Morning Devotion from the Desk of Emma Deekor:

Bible Reading: Luke 15:6-9

Text: Joshua 9:16 KJV
"And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a league with them, that they heard that they were their neighbours, and that they dwelt among them."

Talking about who our neighbour is, do you know that some people do not know their next door neighbour? They have not taken out time to know them until they have need of them. Yes, you will one day need them, no matter how independent you think you are.

There are times you need your neighbours and sincerely, if there was no previous established relationship, how can you build one in the middle of a need?

Imagine what would have happened in 2 Kings 4:1-7, if there was no good neighbourliness where Prophet Elisha instructed the widow whose husband owe so much before his death. Prophet Elisha in verse 3 instructed thus:

"Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few."

She was able to borrow the vessels as instructed because she was in good standing with her neighbours.

Create admosphere to relate with people anywhere you are: in your family, neighbourhood, office or business promises.
- speak to your next door neighbour. Find an avenue to do so.
- a hello and a smile can start the conversation. -Remember, you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16).

Yes, your neighbour might be the most unpleasant person to relate with, but God wants to use you to draw this fellow to Himself.

Do you know people have burdens they are looking for someone like you to share with? When you start a conversation, you will be surprised when the fellow opens up to share his/her burden with you.

After discussion, pray with the person and assure him/her God will take care (Matthew 11:28-29). This will lift the fellow up and reduce the burden and stress. From this point you can intervene like: rendering help, invite the fellow to a program, birthday party, community clean up, etc.

We continue tomorrow God willing with other areas.

Remain blessed and have a great day ahead.
