Serving to Please God

Early Morning With God (EMWG).
Morning Devotion from the Desk of Emma Deekor

Bible Reading: I Thes. 4:1-5

Text: Romans 8:8 KJV
"So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God."

You are called to a life of goodness and total submission to God. When you serve God, you should do so because you love Him and want to please Him. No matter how you choose to serve God, the most important thing is that you do it with a pure heart.

In order to please God, we must be ready to reconcile the flesh and our spirit man. There must be forfeiture of some things which our flesh desires. That is why our text for today states that "those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Why is it so?

This is explained in the bible passages in Galatians 5:16-17 KJV:

"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
[17] For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would."

It is only the spirit man that can please God. What do you do to please God?

i) You must align with the will of God in all that you are doing. The question you must first asked yourself in any decision you are taking is: is this the will of God? Only the Spirit of God can grant you enablement. You must walk with the Holy Spirit of God so that you can work in the will of God (John 6:28-29). You must also do that work in His perfect will ( Rom. 12:2).

ii) obey and reverence God.  God does not compromise obedience at all. Imagine what happened to Moses for one moment of disobedience. He lost entering the promised land (Numbers 20:8-12).

You must also revere God for who He is, Heb. 12:28. In Psalm 89:7 KJV, it is written:
"God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him."

iii) Finally, you must believe in God if you want to please Him (John 3:18, 36). Anyone who does not believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that God sent Him to the world is not pleasing God.

Anyone who does not believe in Jesus as the son of God will not enjoy everlasting life since He is the life (John 6:44, 57).

Do everything with the intention to please God Almighty.

Remain blessed.
